the wait

there are no silk plants here
no dog-eared magazines
no mass-produced vinyl-cushioned chairs
no clock-face on the door that says
'will return at. . .'
there's no clipboard for signing in
no aide calls out names in order of arrival
no elevator music
no brochure display to pass the time

here there are pills
and needles
weak smiles
phone messages
prayers and weary sighs
expanses of empty space and time
fuzzy calendars

welcome to the waiting room

Powerful word pictures.

I'm praying that the cold and sterile "waiting room" will be transformed by His presence, crowded with His wisdom, and filled with comforting companions for the journey.

We can't replace the pills and needles but we can promise our prayers, smiles, and open hearts for all the days on that fuzzy calendar.

thanks for those words.

your prayers for the transformation of the waiting room are answered by your very presence in our lives.

thank you for waiting with us.

We just didn't know that we'd be spending so much time here.
